February is Heart Disease Awareness Month!

Did you know that Heart Disease is the leading cause of death for women? Not breast cancer or any other form of cancer, but heart disease. Women take notice of this because, there are ways to help prevent this from happening to you! We as women are so good at taking care of everyone around us that we forget to take care of ourselves. Often times we look in the mirror & ?one day and ask ourselves what happen? What happen is we neglected to take care of our selves on many levels. We have been taking care of our husbands, children, elderly parents, other family members and others. We put everyone and everything before our own health and that is not healthy or necessary.

Taking care of our families is very important especially our young children, however that doesn’t mean we don’t have to not take care of ourselves. We as women should take better care of ourselves ?with exercise and healthy eating because, we are role models for our families and they look to us for inspiration and guidance.

Starting ?to take better care of ourselves is one of the first steps to decreasing our risk of heart disease…It starts by carving out some time for ourselves so we can exercise, relax, plan meals and not be stressed with everything that surrounds us. If you find yourself stressed out, ?over-committed, over-weight and full of excuses to do everything but carve out time for yourself to get active you could be setting yourself up for a heart attack or stroke. If you are a meso-morph body type (the apple shape), then you are more at risk than the other body types because of where the fat is located. Right around your heart and deep with-in your body…This is very dangerous for this body type because you are also a high risk for diabetes, stroke, heart disease and heart attack. Therefore if you are a meso-morph it is important to lose weight, get on an exercise plan and a healthy nutrition plan.

Here are some of the symptoms of a heart attack…be aware of them in case you feel them happening to you or someone you care about…These symptoms are from the American Heart Association website:

https://www.goredforwomen.org/about-heart-disease/symptoms_of_heart_disease_in_women/symptoms-of-a-heart-attack/

Symptoms of a heart attack:

  • Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
  • Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  • Shortness of breath, with or without chest discomfort.
  • Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

As with men, the most common heart attack symptom in women is chest pain or discomfort. But it?s important to note that women are more likely to experience the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.

Knowing these systems ?could save your life or someone else…

It’s never too late to get started on an exercise program and to take time out for you…Make this the year you take a stand with your health, your family will love you for it!

Happy Valentines…
